Run from your heart

My name is Boglárka Lányi, and I invite you to join me on a special journey!
In the spring of 2026, I plan to run the Rome Marathon – come along with me, with us!

Running a marathon is already a huge challenge in itself, but for me, the road leading there means much more: it’s about a childhood promise, a mother’s gratitude, and the celebration of a shared cause.

When I was the same age as my son Peti is now, I made a vow: if I graduated from high school with top marks and got into law school, I would run a marathon. Back then, all of these seemed nearly impossible – and I never really thought that running 42 kilometers would end up on my bucket list. But this year, signs pointing toward the marathon kept appearing again and again until they became impossible to ignore. When I saw photos, videos, and posts about the Rome Marathon, something clicked. After this year’s 2025 marathon, I signed up on my birthday for next year’s event.

But from this point on, the story is no longer just about me.

Since his birth, Peti’s development has been closely monitored at the Gottsegen György National Cardiovascular Institute (GOKVI). Thankfully, he’s just “put together a little differently” – the differences balance each other out. But over the past 17 years, I’ve seen countless children and families facing much more serious and complex heart conditions. And I’ve also seen the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who stand by them every single day – not only with their medical expertise, but also with genuine human dedication.

I am deeply grateful that they are there, and I want to give something back to support the miracle they create for these children and their families.

That’s why I decided to dedicate my marathon training to raising donations for the GOKVI Foundation. Contributions will be collected in a special account, and at the finish line of the Rome Marathon, we will hand over the total amount to the Foundation.

Friends, family, and acquaintances have already joined this mission, and I hope many more will come on board. It’s amazing to see how this community is taking shape, how the will to act brings us together, and how each of us finds that small way in which we can make the world a little better.

And so I invite you as well: join me, join us – let’s run together and raise 42,195,000 HUF by May 22, 2026 for the Foundation for the Protection of Children with Heart Disease!

About the Fundation…

The “Szívbeteg Gyermekek Védelmében Alapítvány” (Foundation for the Protection of Children with Heart Disease), a public benefit organization, has been supporting the recovery of newborns, infants, and children with heart conditions since 1991, through its work with the Pediatric Cardiology Center of the Gottsegen György National Cardiovascular Institute (GOKVI). Uniquely in Hungary, this is the only place where pediatric heart surgeries, cardiac catheter interventions, mechanical heart support treatments, and pediatric heart transplants are performed.Treating children with heart conditions requires highly specialized medical equipment.

The Foundation’s strength lies in its ability to complement public healthcare with the swift and effective involvement of the civil sector, ensuring that urgent needs can be met quickly. In this way, it contributes every single day to the care and healing of children living with congenital heart disease. Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has provided funding for numerous pieces of equipment, enabling the Pediatric Cardiology Center to develop into a European-level institution that helps hundreds of children recover every year.

Another important area of support is training programs to improve the quality of care for young patients. One example is participation in the FINE training program, where the staff of GOKVI’s neonatal and infant intensive care unit were among the first in Europe – and even worldwide – to learn the principles and practical methods of family-centered, developmentally supportive care. This methodology covers crucial topics such as observing babies’ behavior, involving parents in care, pain management, feeding, and creating an environment that supports neurological development.

The third major area of support focuses on the well-being of children treated at the Institute. This includes initiatives such as therapeutic summer camps, the creation of a playroom and playground within the Institute, and many other activities and facilities that are not covered within “basic care.”
